A few weeks ago, I gave you some links to free Ethics CE courses because that requirement starts in 2020 for ASHA (lots of states have already had this requirement). Read those updates and see the courses here. The other large change is the requirement for supervisors.

What are the requirements for maintaining your Asha certification?

Maintaining Your Certification ASHA Certification Maintenance Standards require that all certificate holders (CCC-A and CCC-SLP) must accumulate 30 Certification Maintenance Hours (CMHs) of professional development during each 3-year certification maintenance interval in order to maintain their ASHA Certificates of Clinical Competence (CCC).

What do you need to do to get an ethics certificate?

“All certificate holders must complete a minimum of 1 hour of professional development in the area of ethics (1 CMH or 0.1 ASHA CEUs) each interval, beginning with certificate holders in the 2020–2022 certification maintenance interval.” Read more about the ethics requirement change here.

What do you need to know about the Asha code of conduct?

As stated in the Assistants Code of Conduct, SLPAs are not independent practitioners, and must be supervised by appropriately credentialed SLPs consistent with state licensing laws and/or with ASHA’s Code of Ethics, and the supervision must be sufficient to ensure the welfare of the client/patient/student.
