Battlefield or combat medicine is a subspecialty of military medicine. Training to become a combat medic requires passing basic training and an advanced course that provides medical skills. No specialized degree is required before entering training, beyond a high school diploma or equivalency certificate.

What are the requirements to be a combat medic?

Education Requirements. Combat medics must hold a high school diploma. Most of the training for combat medics is received on-the-job through training programs. After the completion of basic training, a combat medic will be trained in patient care techniques, sterilization, casting and emergency medical response.

How do you become a combat medic in the Army?

To qualify as an Army combat medic, a soldier must go through 10 weeks of basic combat training and 16 weeks of advanced training, including practicing in-patient treatment.
