Who can administer an EpiPen?

Depending on laws in your state and the level of training a first aid provider has, it may be permissible for a first aid provider to administer an EpiPen to a victim of anaphylaxis. The EpiPen must already be prescribed to the patient in order for it to be used. A fairly new automatic injector of epinephrine is on the market by Auvi‑Q.

What is EpiPen and what does it do?

EpiPen is an injection that contains epinephrine, a chemical that narrows blood vessels and opens airways in the lungs. EpiPens have become a necessity for families with children suffering from severe allergies to counter effects like wheezing, uneven breathing, increased or decreased heart rate, swelling and other potentially fatal reactions.

Can I return an EpiPen?

Place the used EpiPen back in its container and label it clearly. EpiPens have built-in needle covers that will shield the needle after it is used. However, you still need to be careful with it. Return it to the box, if you still have that. On the outside of the box, write the date and time that you administered the EpiPen.

How does an epinephrine auto-injector work?

The medicine in an epinephrine auto-injector is the hormone epinephrine, which is also known as adrenaline. Epinephrine works quickly to reverse the effects of anaphylaxis . When injected, epinephrine causes the body's blood vessels to constrict. This raises blood pressure. At the same time, it relaxes the airways to make it easier to breathe.

How To Use An EpiPen Training

If a patient is known to have an allergy that could lead to anaphylaxis, they may carry an epinephrine auto-injector (an epi pen) that can deliver a single dose of the drug. Epinephrine devices are available in different doses, as the dose of epinephrine is based on weight – 0.15 mg for children weighing between 33 and 66 pounds, and 0.3 mg
