What does K9 stand for??

“K9" is shorthand for “canine", which means dog. That's it. It is a carryover from An Army Corp unit in World War II which used German shepherds in war combat, The K-9 unit were search and rescue, ammunition carriers, message carriers. The word “canine” is easier to abbreviate as “K-9” but is also military code in the battlefield!

How to become a K9 handler??

To become a canine officer, you should follow these steps:

  • Complete the required education and experience to become qualified to become a police officer.
  • Search and apply for open positions in law enforcement.
  • Get fingerprinted, pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Complete testing: polygraph test, physical fitness tests, medical exams.
  • Attend job interviews and get hired as an officer.
